I take great personal pleasure in announcing that effective November
3, 2004 Ms. Melissa Firth has been made Law Librarian/Administrator
to the Peel Law Association. The Peel Law Association Board of Directors
is equally happy that she has taken on this permanent role in our
Law Library. Ms Firth, as many of you may know, has been working
with us in the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse Law Library
in Brampton, Ontario since July 2001 when she was hired as Reference
Technician. She is, we feel, more than amply qualified to meet the
demands of her new position.
Ms Firth came to us, having received her Masters Degree in Library
and Information Science as well as her Bachelor of Arts Degree in
History. She, as a result of her earlier working career, comes to
us with strong interpersonal and managerial skills.
Many of our Association members will already be acquainted with
Ms Firth through their contact with her in the law library concerning
legal research questions or more general questions concerning the
workings of the Association or Continuing Legal Education seminars.
Ms Firth’s confirmation in her new role comes at a time of
exciting growth and renewed interest in our local law association,
as well as developments within the province-wide law library system.
I am sure the membership will enjoy meeting with her and we shall
all look forward to her direction in the Library as well as her
assistance in the many often demanding tasks which she is called
upon to perform in respect to Peel Law Association business. In
addition to her role in the library she will be an ex officio Board
member and she will be able to convey to the Board of Directors
any questions or concerns members may have.
We are happy to have Ms Firth with our Association.
